Winter Is Here!

I think most of us are pleased with the storm(s). Purgatory hit the 6-inch minimum that was forecasted. Telluride hit the 8-inch minimum. I thought at least 12 inches would fall at Wolf Creek, they ended up with 11 inches. Most mid-elevation areas received the 3-6 inches that I forecasted. And most low elevation areas did receive the 2-4 inches that we were expecting.

My forecasts yesterday were based on blending some of the model runs and I was pleased with the results.  Interestingly, all of the models were indicating heavier snow for the western areas of La Plata and Montezuma counties than the eastern areas of La Plata county. The opposite occurred. I had several deep reports from Forest Lakes and county roads 503&502 areas. I said yesterday that I expected a few surprises and those were some of them.

On Monday another system will clip by and may bring the lower and mid-elevations some brief heavy flurries. Purgatory could get an inch if they are very lucky. Telluride and Silverton could see 3 to 5 inches. Wolf Creek could see 1 to 3 inches. These are just preliminary forecasts and I will tighten them up tomorrow.

Thanks again for all of the great reports yesterday. I had so many I had to finish reading them this morning!

Out here on Florida Mesa, near the airport, we got 6” in the storm yesterday! It’s a beautiful crisp day out here today.
Thanks for your posts, my family enjoys reading them!

Durango Hills. We had about 8-9″ on the incredibly accurate snow gauge at 9 last night but the winds blew it away.
