The winds will return again this afternoon. They will start in the western areas of the forecast area. The eastern areas will see the highest winds this afternoon, especially from Bayfield to Wolf Creek.
Snow showers will build into the San Juans this afternoon and evening favoring the NW San Juans. The SW San Juans will see a trace to an inch, with the NW San Juans in the 1-3 inch range.
Here is the snow forecast for those areas.
A few snow showers may redevelop Friday afternoon but I am not expecting anything that would be worth talking about at this time.
Cooler and wetter weather is still in store for us this weekend. Snow will redevelop Saturday morning. There is model disagreement on the timing of this. The latest Euro shows all snow down to 6,500 feet Saturday morning. tapering off in the afternoon and evening. The GFS model shows snow starting in the mountains in the morning, with rain starting late Saturday morning below 8,000 feet. Since we are at least 36 hours out, the models have some time to resolve their differences.
I think we are more interested at this point with the liquid aspect of the precipitation. Here is what the models are showing for Saturday and Sunday. (ending Monday morning).
As I said, we have a day and a half of model runs left so there is plenty of time for things to change a bit. At the moment, the Canadian model has shown the most consistency in its forecast.
My next update will be Friday. If you have not seen the details for this year’s contest you can read them here: Second Annual Drawing For Cash Prizes
