Nothing really new to report. I got the impression from the two discussions that NWS offices are not sure how to handle the timing of the highlights (Watches and Warnings). It was strongly worded that they are expecting major impacts. They are not sure how to handle the fact that it may not stop snowing in some of the high elevation areas between Thursday night and Sunday night. In the past I have seen a Winter Storm Watch issued, then when it becomes a Winter Storm Warning they issue a new Winter Storm Watch for later in the period.
It would look something like this. They issue a Winter Storm Watch tomorrow for Thursday at 6 pm through Saturday at 6 am. Then on Thursday, they upgrade that Watch to Warning and immediately issue a new Winter Storm Watch from Saturday at 6 pm to Sunday at 6 pm.
We will see soon enough. If I have not answered your question yet I will get to it in the morning. As I have said I do not expect travel issues through the daylight hours on Thursday. Traveling across the passes on Friday may be impossible. I expect periodic closures of the passes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
My next update will be Wednesday morning. Thanks for following and supporting the site!
