Wednesday Afternoon Update

12/22/21 Wednesday 3:45 pm

The new model runs are suggesting that the lower elevations will see a change to snow before Christmas morning resulting in at least ground cover. I have been spending a lot of time analyzing temperature profiles. I will talk more about this tomorrow.  Some of the models are suggesting a change to all snow by between 5 and 8 pm Friday. Others are waiting until after midnight. The message is clear for higher elevations and the resorts. Big snow is on the way!

And that is just the beginning of what will be a big week. We will be measuring the snow at the ski resorts with yardsticks into the first week of January.

Yesterday I referenced 2007, 2008, and 2009 winters. I found this photo from Purgatory from the 2009-2010 winter.

I am thinking it could look similar over the next 7 days to 10 days. Then, right after New Years, we may have a big storm come in…I am getting ahead of myself.

Here is the latest GFS from this afternoon.

This latest run has come in much colder. We will see if it is anomalous, or if we will get some good low elevation snowfall!

My next update will be Thursday morning. Thanks for following and supporting the site!
