What If?

12/24/21 Friday 10:15 am

I appreciate all the reports I am getting about lowering snow levels. Thank you.  I have noticed a substantial uptick in the snow at my house as well. A few people have asked how much snow the lower elevations would get if all snow fell from now until the snow dissipates in the lower elevations on Saturday morning.

To answer that I have to assume the models are correct this morning with their latest precipitation runs. That is a big assumption because they were not forecasting the snow levels to lower this early (9:45 am). So by definition, if the levels are already lowering then the model is already wrong.

As I have said before, heavy snow can actually lower the snow levels. The lower elevation snow may be occurring due to the heavier snow bands, or it could be because of the barometric pressure dropping. It has not been long enough for me to see a trend in barometric pressure. It dropped steadily after midnight and has been steady since 6 am. I will be keeping an eye on that.

So back to the question. Hypothetically, if it continues to snow through the end of the storm, areas between 6,500 and 7,000 feet could get 4 to 8 inches of snow.

I will be updating throughout the day. Thanks for following and supporting the site!
