Winter Returns!

1/31/22 Monday 7:15 am

Things seem to be coming together for a moderate to strong storm to affect our area beginning Tuesday evening. The biggest travel impacts will be Tuesday night (after dark) through Thursday morning over Wolf Creek Pass where 15 to 24 inches could fall. 12+ inches will be possible from Purgatory to Silverton. 6 to 12 inches could accumulate from Red Mountain to Telluride.

Snow should fall across the entire forecast area with this storm. I like the preliminary amounts that were highlighted by the NWS in my previous update. In the forecast discussion, they said that they may have to increase the amounts for Durango, Bayfield, and Pagosa. We will see. Tuesday afternoon I will issue my forecast.

Here are the overnight models. They are looking promising, I will feel better if I see this trend continue for the next 24 hours.
