Thursday Afternoon Update

3/9/23 Thurday 2:30 pm

The recent model runs are fairly consistent with their prior runs. Winter Storm Warnings go into effect at 6 am tomorrow for the higher elevation areas. I still don’t feel good about the way they are written, it is misleading to say Ouray and Lake City will get a bunch of snow, they will not. It is also misleading to forecast 6 to 12 inches of snow for Wolf Creek Pass, they will get a lot more. Tomorrow morning I will put out a forecast for the areas that are going to get snow.

The precipitation will begin tomorrow morning and will fill in from north to south by late morning/early afternoon. As I mentioned this morning, travel over the passes will be interrupted throughout the weekend, likely on Saturday and Sunday so plan for delays and closures.

Here are the latest model runs showing the event’s total liquid precipitation between Friday morning and Monday morning.
