I have tried not to get people’s hopes up for a big storm this weekend. The northern and central mountains will be the big winners this time. That is pretty typical this time of year.
Rain and snow showers should develop overnight tonight and into Saturday morning. The snow levels should be between 8,700 and 9,300 feet for most of the weekend. The cold front will likely get hung up just as it drops south into the San Juans. Areas north of Red Mountain may see snow levels lower on Sunday and snow would increase in northwest flow. If the cold front drops faster than I expect we could get a snowy and windy frontal passage that could briefly affect the mid and lower elevations. As I said, at this point I do not expect that to happen.
There is still some disagreement among the models on how much snow will fall. Generally, it looks like 5 to 12 inches total by Monday morning. The highest amounts should over Red Mountain Pass, Telluride, and Wolf Creek Pass.
I am going to hold off for 1 more model cycle before I post the snow and liquid precip maps, I will have those up this afternoon so check back then.
