Sunday Update

4/2/23 Sunday 8 am

I think there are still some details to work out with the next storm. A high wind warning has been issued across the lower elevations of the 4 corners beginning Monday at 11 am through 11 pm on Monday.

The highest gusts will occur in the higher elevation areas which are not mentioned in the Warning. Also not being addressed is the snow that will fall late Monday through Tuesday in the higher elevations.  More perplexing is the highest winds will occur after the Warning expires in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

This does not look like it will be a big snow producer over the mountains, but some of the models have been outputting advisory-level amounts. Couple that with wind gusts from 60-70 mph and it could cause some serious travel concerns over the passes from Monday night through Tuesday. Perhaps that will be addressed between now and Monday (hint)…

This system is just the bottom end of a very big storm that will be punishing Wyoming, Utah, and Northern Colorado with a large amount of snow and wind. In fact, this storm will likely put Alta, and Brighton, Utah over 850 inches for the season!

For now, it looks like another 6-10 inch storm for our higher elevations. The lower and mid-elevations may see a dusting to a couple of inches by Tuesday.
