Hardrock 100

7/12/23 Wednesday 6:45 am

The Hardrock 100 begins in about 48 hours. The weather should be dry, with temperatures 2-4 degrees above average during the day and 2-4 degrees below average overnight.

For everyone else, the warm weather will continue. In fact, it is going to get worse. Unless you actually enjoy hot weather. Personally, I am sick of it. I am ready for rain and cooler temperatures. If I wanted hot weather I would live someplace else.

Fortunately, all indications continue to point to a pattern change coming in less than 10 days!

    Jeff,
Thanks for the Hardrock update! I was excited to wake this morning to see forecast highs come down a couple degrees for Friday and Saturday. That’ll be a big help to Hardrock runners.

One thing I’ve noticed is SUPER dry air for the race. Like 12% RH in Silverton on Friday, and 10% on Saturday. (It was previously forecast to hit single digits.) Now, I’m used to seeing those low relative humidities in, say, Moab over the summer, but it /feels/ like that’s off the charts for Silverton. Is that just Wunderground overdoing it, or is this a climatological aberration?

Second, got stormed on in Telluride (even hail) and Silverton yesterday, with some rain on Red Mountain Pass. Let’s hope the nonsoon breaks late next week!
