Thursday Afternoon Update

12/26/24 Thursday Noon

I have no complaints overall regarding that little storm. It behaved very similar to what I had expected. The biggest surprises were around the Mancos area where four to seven inches of snow fell in a pretty short period of time.

Snow will return briefly later today mostly in the higher elevations and resorts. It will then take a break before returning early Friday morning. On and off snow showers will continue, mostly in the higher elevations, through the day and perhaps Friday night.

The GFS, Canadian, and German models all show six to ten inches of snow for the NW San Juans before Saturday morning.

At this time, I am not expecting much snow in the lower elevations. I do expect it to snow, however. The European model shows light accumulations across the lower elevations, but it is the only model that shows that.

The highest totals should fall from Ouray to Red Mountain Pass, and there could be an upside surprise. Telluride should get in on that action.

I do not expect Purgatory and Wolf Creek to do as well as points north.

I will take another look tomorrow and post it. Hopefully, we will see the European model get a little more aggressive.

This weekend, I will be talking more about the next pattern change that should arrive by mid-month.
