3/30/25 Sunday 5 am
April is going to come in like a lion. Is that a thing? I’m pretty sure it used to be a popular proverb. Speaking of felines, we are on the lookout for a new kitten; our other lost his best buddy a few weeks ago, and wants someone to play with. Contact me if you can help. None of the usual adoption connections have kittens at the moment, I have already checked.
Back to this week…
If you want a wet week with snow and rain in the lower elevations and consistent mountain snow, with the possibility of a significant storm arriving late into the week and weekend, you are in the right place.
Later today, light, mostly insignificant snow showers could develop over the 550 passes, Wolf Creek, and Lizard Head passes. I have often used the term “nuisance showers” for such events. They don’t add to the snowpack, but they may make the roads slick and affect visibility.
Late Monday night, a more significant system will affect Northern Colorado. We will get some leftovers that may total three to five inches of snow from Red Mountain to Telluride, with a little less for Purgatory.
A weak system will move through on Wednesday, with more light snow showers.
Thursday snow showers may develop again, this time in advance of a more powerful system set to arrive early Friday and last through the weekend. That could make for a perfect closing weekend for Wolf Creek and Telluride.
Here are the maps in motion over the long, ten-day period.
Remember I can’t mark up the animated images. So here is what you are looking at.

Here is the liquid equivalent forecast for the next 10 days.

With its extended closing dates, Purgatory might be the biggest benefactor as I now believe April will be the wettest month since November.
Check out the end of the fourteen-day period as another storm makes its way into the Great Basin before arriving in SW Colorado.
