Monday Update

5/19/25 Monday  4:30 am

Yesterday I said I wanted to wait until today to talk about the forecast. I’m glad I waited. As expected, today will not be as wet as yesterday. This precipitation event was a nice little distraction from the dry status quo.

We currently have a front draped across the state, waiting to exit, and a weather traffic jam to our east.

Typically, when this happens, the trailing stalled front in Colorado will be absorbed or used by the lead system, and the extra energy will fuel severe weather to our east. For those curious, I outlined where the most dangerous storms will form today.

Light showers and snow showers may be possible across the forecast area, but today will not be as productive as yesterday.

Rain, snow, and graupel were about as expected yesterday. It started a little earlier than expected, and snow temporarily fell lower than expected. There was also more convection than I expected, and most rain fell under and around those storms. I spot-checked a few locations and saw a large pocket of totals exceeding 0.40″.

Dry weather returns after today.
