Winter Weather Advisories Issued

6 am

WWAs were issued as expected for 3-6″ below 7,000′ and 6-12″ above 8,500′. These are what I refer to as “Blanket Advisories” they cover a lot of areas (because a lot of areas will get similar amounts of snow). The devil is in the details because different pieces of the storm and a different storm (for the Central and Northern Mountains) will create these totals. I don’t think it is a great way for the forecaster to handle it.

The GFS threw its hat in the ring overnight finally. Which I was pleased to see, but the HiRes WRF model will be the preferred model to decipher the snow forecast for this storm.

I plan to have at least 2 additional updates today so stay tuned. Timing has not changed.
